Life Support Courses

Vertical Medicine Resources is a registered provider of the American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and AED course and are providers of the American Heart Association (AHA) BLS and ACLS curriculum for healthcare professionals. The American Red Cross courses meet the standards of workplace safety often required for climbing gym personnel and is a great start for anyone interested in increasing their knowledge to respond to emergency situations. These courses can form a foundation of knowledge for the layperson that can be transferred to the vertical environment.

The AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Course is a requirement for most health professionals and VMR provides this training in conjunction with our other advanced curriculum for heatlh care providers and medical guides.

The goal of our ACLS EP Course is to improve outcomes in complex cardiovascular, respiratory, and other emergencies by expanding on core ACLS guidelines and encouraging critical thinking and decision-making strategies. The solid foundation of the ACLS curriculum will assist the wilderness and climbing medicine student as an adjunct to their educational goals. Understanding the background of advanced care in a frontcountry/urban setting will create a context for the student to prioritize care goals in a more remote or vertical environment. Understanding what realistic modalities can be improvised will also direct providers and guide services in their decision making models for evacuation and continued activity participation.

But don't take our word for it, here is what some guide services have said about our curriculum and instructors:

"Thank you Vertical Medicine Resources for the outstanding course we received during our annual guides training. The American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid class was exactly what we needed and the best and most thorough we have taken."
